SAHRAI AT THE QUIRINALE PALACE IN ROME
Sahrai enters one of the most prestigious buildings in the city of Rome, seat of the Presidency of the Republic: the “Quirinale”.
The Quirinale Palace in Rome is one of the most extraordinary residences in the capital. Its construction began in 1537. The palace was the residence of Popes, starting with Paolo V, and a symbol of the Pontiff's sovereignty. The King settled here from 1871 to 1946, when the Quirinal Palace became the official residence of the President of the Italian Republic.
This symbolic site of the Italian Government is full of history and contains an extraordinary artistic heritage, enriched today thanks to a project commissioned by the current President Sergio Mattarella: Quirinale Contemporaneo. The aim of the initiative is to update the heritage of the building, introducing works of art, objects of furniture and contemporary design, which represent the highest expression of Italian creativity, known and appreciated all over the world.
The Bargello Rug, one of Sahrai's masterpieces, created in collaboration with the designers Rodolfo Dordoni and Gordon Guillaumier, has been handpicked to become part of the permanent collection of the Quirinale. A prestigious recognition, which sees the work alongside the masterpieces of many Made in Italy design names: from Gaetano Pesce (Cassina) to Vico Magistretti (De Padova), from Piero Fornasetti to Gio Ponti (Fornasetti). The rug, hand-knotted by Sahrai’s talented artisans, is made of wool and silk and stands out for its sophisticated design, for its three-dimensional graphics and the interactions between the different shades of colors and the shadows generated by the raised embroidery.
Sahrai's presence is twofold at the Quirinale, thanks to the collaboration with Armani/Casa, with Croquis, a beautiful and precious rug completely in silk, characterized by a floral motif in raised embroidery and inspired by Art Deco. The exquisite rug has been placed inside the dining room of the Belvedere del Torrino, where the most important institutional gatherings are held.
